The Art of David Delgado

I just came back from a #creativemornings event absolutely inspired by a talk by a NASA JPL artist named David Delgado. The theme of the event was curiosity, but this man exemplified the concept. His small team at JPL creates art to invoke wonder, and get people to come away with more questions, and the desire to find their own answers. As adults, many seek permission to be creative- people somehow have become afraid to play and create on their own. Flooded with all the information in the world, we sometimes forget to ask questions.

The first thing we saw was an art installation that he collaborated on - it recreates a comet here on Earth, and inspires people to ask what a comet really is. Here's more on that project: http://www.davidjdelgado.com/the-rosetta-comet

His team at JPL had to decorate a hallway once because an exoplanet expert was coming to town for a meeting. They brainstormed and looked at all the features of exoplanets that we know today, and ended up making vintage-inpired travel posters for those planets. These planets are so far away that they really only show up as a tiny dot in front of a star, but they were able to give the viewer some sense of understanding of what those planets could really be like. It was my first time going to Creative Mornings, a design-centric lecture series that spans 183 cities. I'm not much of a morning person, and LA traffic makes me feel less like going out, but today, I'm really glad I did. I'm so blown away by this artist and their creativity, and inspired to put the same feeling of awe in some of my projects.
