Our lives are the pieces of art we leave on this earth. So following that logic our bodies are our paints, our brushes, our canvases even. When an artist makes a “mistake” they don’t throw their canvas away and start again, they incorporate it into their work. Take something that was an accident and turn it into something beautiful.
Except in life, when we mess up, more times than not we try to cover it up, pretend it never happened and walk away from it. We wipe the canvas, leave a smudge and try pretending it’s not there. That smudge though sometimes isn’t that easy to ignore, the longer we ignore it and pretend it’s not there, the uglier and harder to deal with it gets. It’s easy to ignore problems and mistakes but eventually we’ll mess up again or another problem will arise.
We’re all artists, no matter our profession or what box society has ticked for us. Life is art, we are art. So let’s act like it. Let’s embrace our smudges, let’s acknowledge that we messed up, let’s see our smudge and use it to make something beautiful. We need to stop thinking that in order for something to be beautiful it has to be perfect. Because the truth is, that that’s very rarely the case.
