Drawing for Dwelling -Morris at the Window
Watching
I'm sharing with you the process of how I created 'Morris at the Window', an illustration for Chapter Twenty of Doug Karr's thrilling novel Dwelling.
Morris climbed out onto the fire escape, salsa dribbling his fingers. His face tightened as he peered up the side of the building at Dorian's, the music thumping.

The process of creating the drawing
The paper was first scored into, and then ink and water were applied, and then rubbed off to leave a marked and stained surface.
The window frame area was masked off with tape. The image of Morris was drawn out in pencil, before ink and water washes were applied to build up tones.
Trudging the fire escape, Morris reached the 6th floor. He peeked in through Dorian's window.

The gallery assistant pointed to the window, now empty.
"There was a guy out there," she said wearily. "Eating a taco."
Dorian laughed, with a smirk. He grabbed the joint back.
"No more of this for you."
