I often doodle to get the flow of my curves correct before I begin on larger pieces of work. My desk today was covered in lots of pieces of paper, each with their own little doodle of curves and lines. I was about to start clearing these away when I thought it would be nice to experiment more with these spontaneous little designs.
Experimentation doesn't always initially lead to a successful piece of work, but it does develop my understanding of techniques and materials. So, experimentation is an important part of my continuing growth as an artist. I try to put into my day at least one activity with materials or subject matter that will push me out of my comfort zone. Today it was using gouache over oil pastel and working on an abstract design.
In this post I will show you the process of developing one of those doodles with oil pastels, watercolour and gouache paint.
Once the paint had dried I added white Gouache and further oil pastel.
oooooh I still have an hour and a half journalling time left today (and about the same amount of time until we hit tomorrow) I hope you don't mind me popping off and using this as inspiration.

Always a pleasure, glad you enjoyed the post!
I assume those are "basic" doodle for you!! nice ones
The initial doodle is a basic one, a doodle out of necessity.
I'm going back and forth between the posts and I love that you are sharing your experiments with us. Will post my favorite on post 2. ;)
