A copper box

'We flow on seas of data, our souls entwined with digital worlds.'

Last week, I made a copper box for DADA as part of the project "Soul In The Machine: An Art Experience".

I made the box from copper, the metal was cut and bent into shape, and then soldered. It was also hammered and scorched with a blowtorch to give the box a more distressed look.

'We flow on seas of data, our souls entwined with digital worlds', is the text punched into the copper.

The finished piece

The piece is now in New York, carrying with it a little red paper boat with the words of the one-line poem running along the outside. Inside the box there is also sea glass that I have I collected from different beaches in the UK and France.
