New Beginnings

in #art7 years ago

So, it’s been a little more than a year since I’ve started painting seriously. And I’ve learned a lot.

…And changed a lot. Isn’t it amazing how something like this can change your whole mindset?! Well, it’s possible.

To be honest, if you had told me two years ago that painting will become such a big part of my life, I was probably going to ask you if you need a doctor because you are definitely not ok [my humor can be sharp].

But now, I can’t imagine being out of my life.

I know that I’ve told this countless of times, but making art was all I ever dreamed of. And I had the wrong belief that I’m not able to make art because I haven’t studied it. Sometimes [most of the times] I regret not going to courses and art school when my parents were trying to convince me. But what did I know back then – I was 11-13 years old…

But now everything is different! We live in a world where you can learn almost everything from the internet. And just because I’m self-taught doesn’t mean that I can’t become good.

Making art helped me learn more about myself, made me calmer and happier.

Simply, I found my happy place – on the floor of my bedroom with a brush in my hand and canvas in front of me [well, it’s not always a brush and it’s not always a canvas but it whatever].

And I’m still searching for my style. One day I want to paint flowers, the next day I want to paint birds, the third day I want to paint mountains. What I’m certain about is that I’m inspired by nature. But the style? Well, I’m experimenting – it may be more abstract [as this one] or maybe more recognizable.

Question: What style do you prefer? Seeing an abstract painting that makes you think and feel or a painting in which you can immediately recognize everything?

I believe in the power of colors. Particular colors make you feel particular emotions. And this is why my emotions drive me when choosing the palette for a new painting.

For this one, I picked blue as the main color. It calms me down and makes me feel safe. I love to experiment with different hues and shades of blue. This one particularly gives a mystic look, like there is something deeper that you can’t see at first glance. Like staring at an ocean and expecting at any moment a mystical creature to jump out of the water.

At first, I was thinking of leaving it only blue but something made me put a bit of yellow. The positive yellow best fits the calming and mystic blue [been in love with this color combo as far as I can remember.. after all, I chose these colors for my blog theme].

And the lighter blue, I call it baby blue for some reason, eases the sharpness of the other two colors.

Ok, still didn’t look finished, so after staring at it for 36 hours, I realized what was missing – the white lines! They’ve made the composition look better [it was really unbalanced before adding them]. And because, I’m inspired by nature, making ‘mountains’ was the perfect final touch.

I called it ‘New Beginnings’ because I’ve done it in the very beginning of the new year, with lots of expectations for the new 2018 year to be better for my art and my life. I’ll concentrate on what makes me happy instead of what other people will say. Because when you do something with your heart, you do it much better than when you do it forcefully just because you want other people to like it.

This year I’m planning to find more about what makes me more ‘me’. I love others’ art and will continue being inspired by them. However, I found a lot about myself and I will continue digging into my soul to see what else will come up.

And if you are interested in this painting:

it’s on stretched canvas, 30×40cm which is ≈ 12×16 inches

it’s painted with acrylic paints and the white lines are with oil pastel
