///// CHARACTER DESIGN 4 MOVING PICTURE ////// SIRIUS 2007 VS. PROMETHEUS 2012

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Would you get surprised to see completely two same characters just with opposite intentions?

One was made in 2006/2007 at Fine Art Academy for electronic animation study, and another in 2011/2012 in professional A production.

They both have similar physical appereance, they both came from around the same location, yet Sirius healed himself and Prometheus was poisoned in same manner.

Storyboard on the left is SIRIUS,  designed/written/authored by me... and stills on the right are from PROMETHEUS movie directed by Ridley Scott, in particular the sacrifice scene. Main difference between them is that Sirius is blind, and in meditation he manifests light and changes his DNA stucture, healing his condition. The contaminated particles with smoke are being moved with light all until Sirius extract the roots of his condition trough the sphincter :) in the form of a tree. Unlike Prometheus who is healthy drinks a poisoned matter and destroys his DNA as well as himself.

What fascinates me the most, how creative individuals can create beings like this so similar and accurate, unless they really don't exist?

But I wrote about that in one of my previous post about Akasha

Sirius creating process

After the storyboard I went to the eye doctor to make exam on me and show me how the eye really look like inside. This was my favourite part, I had no idea about the eyes micro universe and all detailed abstract life inside. Even more to talk about it with doctor who was more than enthusiastic and creative to explain it all in details.

After that I went to butcher, lol. Asking him to give me various parts of bowels for my experiment. He was like wtf but as soon as he saw I'm eager about this he made a really good presentation of animal parts I could use for my big eye construction.

Then I took the biggest round wine glass I could of find. And started to make construction around it and textures. I poured and experimented with various liquids and food particles to make it live and vivid. I was all day in my room doing it with fullest attention. I couldn't eat or drink anything but yoghurt just to calm down my senses as this was of intensive smell and odour, almost making me wanna puke.

Then I went up to the hills to find the perfect tree as I imagined and i needed to photograph it in the dark. Problem was to enlighten the tree so high up in the hill. But I managed and a friend helped me. I made stop animation of that tree photo for days, frame by frame in photoshop, making a still sequence. I didn't use aftereffects as photoshop could of gave me so much control over image itself.

Rest was classic video footage with actor and long particle light study and experiments in AFX and Lightwave.

The process itself was enlightening, and that's what I call art. There is no art without process from which you grow in some way or another.  The deeper the process, the better the art. Simple as that.

Unfortunately, technology is ungrateful trough the time. Hard disk from this project somehow went corrupted among with many work I did then and all I have left from it is this storyboard I luckily printed on paper.
