Blasphemous Scribbles - Sex, Fractals & the Occult

in #art6 years ago

The occult has always been related to sex. Especially in medieval times, "witches" were usually accused of seducing husbands, and forcing them to participate in orgies in the woods. Oh, what the poor guys had to endure, it was the devil of course that made them do it!

Pagan and Wiccan ritual rites involve nakedness and probably intercourse. Satanic rituals, notoriously, also include sex and use it as a reward or tool -- it's a rather mainstream concept , seen in several movies and books (Polanski's "The 9th Gate" is the first to come to mind). In Aleister Crowley's work, sexual intercourse is an important part of his rituals, and his teachings were very influential in western ritual magic traditions.

Sacred Prostitution was a thing all over the ages! In medieval occult imagery, sexual symbolism is encountered very often, too. The famous Voynich Manuscript contains several pictures of sexual nature. A lot of H.R. Giger's works have both occult and sexual symbolism. Cults of Dionysus in ancient Greece and most mystery religions had sexual rites. Lovecraft always hinted at blasphemous unions and their unspeakable spawns.

OK, I will stop casually throwing whatever sexual reference comes to my troubled mind. And, since everybody does it, I will do it, too... but, with fractals!! Now, can you spot all the phalluses?!
