Drawing a Praetorian Guard! An Afternoon of Art for Kids Hub.
This wouldn't have been my first choice to draw, but the kids liked the idea of drawing something a bit "Star Wars". The Proetorian Guard it is!
Stage 3 were unlucky enough to have another day with me today, as their regular teacher was sick again.
Suckers!
The last hour of the day shouldn’t be considered a “write-off”, but after a very hot afternoon during the lunch play break, the children were stuffed and I wanted to keep the class cool and under control. I loaded up Art For Kids Hub onto the interactive whiteboard and asked the kids to get out their supplies and grab a sheet of paper!
I was introduced to ArtforKidsHub through one of my favourite teachers. This guy’s a legend. He retrained in his adult life to become a teacher, but he used to fly choppers for the Marines in the States and he actually flew Marine One! If you’re wondering, it was Clinton. How nuts is that?! However, he’d rarely tell anyone.
As he said,
“You go telling people these things, and they either think your lying. Or worse, bragging. There’s no good outcome.”
So really, I’m not sure how we all came to know! Maybe it was on his CV?
Got to love a Presidential tangent!
Hold up. What is Art For Kids Hub?
It’s a YouTube channel with over a million subscribers (probably all teachers and parents). A guy and one of his kids do tutorials on how to draw different things – from realistic lions to Pusheen the cat. Each video usually ranges from 3 minutes up to about 15 for detailed stuff.
Today we drew a few different things, including a snowboarder and the Praetorian Guard from the Star Wars universe.
Enjoy the photos! --- I’ve taken photos of backs of heads and covered faces to protect the children. Of course, you all understand!
It’s always best to think first!
Most kids used pencils or textas to colour in their art. I used oil pastels.
As a bit of fun at the end of the day, I ask the kids if they think my artwork is any good. They're all far too kind and blow wind in my sails and cheer. So I use the 'random' function on Class Dojo (a points system we use in class) to select someone to give it to. However, if their table or surrounds is messy, they don't get the artwork and I choose someone else!
It's a bit of an incentive to keep things clean.
Well, thanks for stopping by, ladies and gents! It's come to that special time where you UPVOTE!

I’m still looking for an artist to cover my work on my fantasy saga, Adventures in Elowyn Glade. Please make some noise if you’re interested.
Wow those kids are good at drawing :) or maybe they had a good teacher :D.
