SPARROWS ON A WINDOW SILL / Oil Painting by Neha Bisht/ a study work copy of a masterpiece ….

Copies of Artwork by Masters are great Artworks in their own right too. The only difference between an original and a good copy is in the Primary Vision, Thought and Creative Imagination. The original art embodies a vision, creative imagination, thought and soul that the copy does not embody. But technically, they are twins ! :)

There are two main aspects to creating Copy of famous Artwork by Masters.

One is for Study. Second is to create a Copy/Fake for sale .

1 -   Copies are done as a form of study.
The best way to learn art is by copying the Masters. Soviet Art Schools impress upon the importance of learning in silence by copying the Masters. As you study the details, atmosphere, colour, texture of a masterpiece, and move your brush to recreate it, you understand many aspects of painting that cannot be taught . And as you study, you begin to understand your own art preferences and start evolving your own style.

Many of my friends from Ukraine, Estonia, Russia, who are established artists, do have a fair amount of copies they did as study work. :)

If you can copy an Ivan Shishkin or an Ilya Repin, or a Boldini, then you have to be great yourself ! 😊

2 - Copies are done to create a “Copy/Fake of a Masterpiece” for the purpose of selling.
Not everyone can afford an original. A good Copy of a masterpiece is equally great, but less expensive.

There is a whole market for it ! It is legal.

There are rules and regulations attached to creating copies. Like there must be a difference in the size of the canvas and there should be minor colour tone difference to identify it as a copy. There should be minor brush stroke differences and difference in signature. Also, if a masterpiece is older than 70–80 years, no copyright is required. If a masterpiece is less than 70 years old, then it can be done for study. But without a copyright, it cannot be sold !

If all rules are followed, , then it is a Legal Copy. If not, then it is an Illegal Fake ( Art Forgery is crime if deception is involved. )

Copy artists are great artists in their own right. I have great respect for their talent.

It is not easy to relive an era gone by or enter into another man’s mind. A copy artist is a magician. He enters into another man’s mind and recreates an atmosphere and a world he has never seen.

There are great Copy Artists like the Posin Brothers, Berlin, Germany .

Posin Brothers have a complete gallery of copies . Unlike most forgers, they’re not trying to dupe the art world. Their buyers know exactly what they’re getting for the thousands of euros they shell out for a Posin painting. Many of the buyers/customers of Posin's "fakes" are collectors, often millionaires, who own an original but want to keep it hidden away, for fear of theft or damage. They instead display the fakes of the originals they possess .

So you see, it is a whole world out there, in the field of art ! Everything is fair and legal. But Deception is a Crime in every field !

This oil painting of mine, “Sparrows on a Window Sill”, is a copy of the famous painting “Immigrants” by Michael Dumas (2003).
I have titled it —  “Sparrows on a Window Sill”. It is a personal study work. I wanted to study sparrows and texture of wood !

These two sparrows painted by Michael Dumas , and thereafter by me and many others too, have a little interesting history about them.

The green-shuttered window belongs to the old Keene Hotel in the historic village at Lang, Ontario. The two house sparrows seen here, perched on the window-sill have a nest in the summer shed of the Fitzpatrick house next door. The ancestors of both, the birds and the human builders of the village, came to the 'new world' as immigrants. Through their toughness and resourcefulness they thrived and grew. 😊

Nicely done! If I were an art teacher my students would have to do master studies all day long :)
Speaking of bird paintings, Carel Fabritius's goldfinch is one of my favorites:

And that is the best kind of teacher. One who guides. But does not teach. I would love to learn from a teacher who knows the value of masters. Salvador Dali said - "First learn to paint like old masters, then you can do whatever you want - everyone will respect you ".
Carel Fabritius's Goldfinch is beautiful.
I think I found my teacher here. 😊 I will be learning a lot from you, @steemswede . Really glad to have come across your blog 😊🍷🍷

Thank you so much for the visit and the appreciation, @steemswede! Truly kind and generous of you. I have my main art profile on DeviantArt platform 😊...

I'm glad Dumas inspired you but I think yours is better 😃
Its cleaner and seems fresher, more like spring!

Blessings

Thank you... That is the greatest compliment I have received :) Truly honoured @ecoinstant :)
Greetings and best wishes to you too :)

And beautiful bow you have taken Neha!

I was very interested to read about the legalities of copies - for me it was a very good article - good art plus a bit of learning ;p

😊😊.... There is so much in the world. Each topic is a world on its own. And we are all constantly learning. I find your homesteading a fascinating and informative read 😊

Then we can inspire each other 😁

Lovely birds, awesome painting :)

Thank you @drakos .... It is my honour that you like it 😊.... Given you my Witness Vote & followed . Wish you all the best :)

Thanks. I'm an amateur abstract artist myself and I love birds. That's a double appreciation for that painting 🐦

Then it is a double honour for me :) . And it is time for double celebration, @drakos , for the Jolly Pirate :) ;) :D

Hi... It looks so real!!! Just like a photo..

Thank you @ecoinstant. I have a question. Can I simply upvote and be a part of the movement ? Or donations also ?

Hello, yes you can. All rewards we get are going directly to Cameroon to save Abongphen Highland Forest.

Copying is an art ...I feel, it needs one to be more talented than the master work. You have done an amazing job copying!

Not more, but technically very talented. The original embodies a vision that lacks in the copy artist. .But technically, making copies is a matter of talent. To reproduce a Mona Lisa well enough to pass it off as an original is surely talent of technique ! Legalities are a different department. :) Thank you that you like my reproduction of the masterpiece.

thank you @budifatria... Very happy that you like it :)
