Why is sketching so difficult than you imagine?

            There are many factors which make sketching of some object or a portrait very difficult. Actually we don't draw what we exactly see. Our attention is disturbed when we look at the various essential parts of the portraits or the object.

           These difficulties mostly appear to beginners.

Some of the factors which make sketching so difficult are:

1. What happens we try to look at the object?

          Normally, when we are looking at the object our attention is at a particular point. When our eyes flick then our attention gets at another part of the object which we think are interesting. Same happens while we are sketching or painting by looking at the portrait. for a fixed interval of time our vision is focused at a particular part but after flicking our eyes we find something more interesting parts to look. Then when we try to trace it to our canvas or drawing paper we are not able to trace it exactly how the portrait really look.

       The movement of our vision from one part of the image to another part is known as "saccade".

2. Perception

         When we start to draw an object we look at a particular part of the object and try to trace it down on the paper. But, we actually forget to compare the whole drawing to the object and analyze how it looks. While starting to sketch we should always have a broad view of the sketch in our mind and try to imagine how t will going to look. So this minor mistake makes the sketch look completely different from the real object what we are trying to draw.

3. Lack of confidence 

        When we are all set to sketch and begin with making the outline of the sketch we make many minor mistakes which we try to solve it right at the moment. First of all we should be starting to draw a basic figurative outline of the sketch to ensure that the shape of the portrait is going in well direction.

       And when we complete drawing the basic shapes of the portrait then we should move  forward to draw the small details in the structure of the face.
