BB-8 engagement ring box [EN][PL]

Here is BB-8 engagement ring box I built after seeing this cute character showing his torch thumb up in Episode 7 Star Wars The Force Awakens. This scene made me laugh and started my fascination with this little guy. He is great addition to my robot engagement ring boxes collection, he looks awesome next to Wall-E.

[PL] Pudełko na pierścionek zaręczynowy w kształcie BB-8, droida z 7 części Gwiezdnych Wojen. Polubiłem go po scenie z kciukiem która rozśmieszyla całą salę kinową i rozpoczęła moją fascynację tym małym bohaterem. Dodatkowo świetnie się komponuje z moim wcześniejszym robotem Wall-E.

BB8 shape is simple ball with intricate panelling lines. The easiest way to split it would be cutting the ball in half and leaving ugly joint, but I wanted to hide it using the features of robots design. That gave me this interesting flower like shape when opened. It made the construction a bit more complicated than just straight line but I think it was worth this extra effort.

[PL] BB-8 ma prosty kształt kóli z ciekawym wzorem paneli. Najłatwiej byłoby przeciąć go na pól ale dałoby to brzydką linię którą chciałem ukryć używając oryginalnych podziałów. Takie rozcięcie choć bardziej skomplikowane do wykonania, dało interesujący kształt przypominający kwiat.

The head is made of standard ping pong ball with panels cut using sharp knife. I omit 2 antennas, because they would be very fragile at this scale.

[PL] Głowę wykonałem uzywając standardowej piłki do ping ponga a linie paneli wycięte scalpelem. Pominąłem 2 antenki bo w tej skali były zbyt delikatne.

At the end I painted it with acrylic paints with light weathering. All sealed with satin varnish and interior lined with orange felt gives fresh, modern look. The figure stands 8cm tall when closed.

[PL] Na koniec pomalowałem droida modelarskimi farbami akrylowymi. Całość pokryłem lakierem bezbarwnym dla ochrony przed wilgocią. Wnętrze wykleiłem pomarańczowym filcem co dało nowoczesny wygląd. Figurka jest mala, mierzy 8cm gdy zamknięta.
