Abstract Experiments
Now for something completely different. In previous posts I mentioned I liked to experiment with a lot of different software. The following and the former are some of those experiments. I think I followed a tutorial for the first image and in all honesty I don't even remember how I made the others and I think I lost the original scene files.
I really have a hard time coming up with things to say about the work I post. Anyone else have that?
This is my favorite post of yours! I like abstract art and you have some eye-catching examples here. What kind of software do you use for this type of exploration? As far as naming or talking about my work, I like to imagine what it could be, like taking a Rorschak test, and using that as a title. And then give a few insights on how I arrived at the image.
Thanks @sphericalart! The first image was made in Cinema 4D. If you're not familiar its 3D software primarilay aimed at broadcast design and visual effects for tv and film. Everything after that was created with Adobe After Effects by starting with a base photo and running it through a multitude of distortion filters with different settings. Glad you like them! It was crickets when I posted them so glad someone is into it :)
Thanks for your reply. Yes I'm familiar with C4D. I use Modo, which is not too different. I like how C4D is tied in so closely with After Effects, which is an app I use. Have you tried Element 3D, a plugin for AE from Video Copilot?
No problem :) Yes I have used Element. It was one of the main reasons I ended up spending about a year and a half primarily focused on C4D.
I'm actually a long time Maya user, but I was doing a fair amount of motion graphics freelance with After Effects being my main go to tool. But I wanted more 3D control and the Maya and AE link is pretty weak.
I know how much work it can be to learn a new 3D package so I hesitated for a long time, but once I started down the path of Cinema I immediately fell in love. So much of what I was pulling my hair out to try to do in Maya was super easy in Cinema, and the link with AE was butter smooth. Cinema actually became my PRIMARY tool for mograph and now I just use AE for finishing.
Have you seen X-Particles for Cinema, looking at your work I think you'd really like it :)
I think I might jump into C4D too, soon. Primarily because of the AE and Element link. I will have to check out x-particles and Mograph. Thanks for your detailed reply. Keep up your abstract experiments - I look forward to seeing more!
