Tattoo 101 Part 1
There are many different styles of tattoo, however probably one of the most recognizable styles would have to be the Traditional Style. Do not be fooled by its name, the Traditional style is founded with deep roots that are a century old but the style itself has gently evolved through the years adapting a new school twist that has only enriched the style further.
First we will look at the Traditional "Sailor Jerry" Flash Art. The style has a simplicity in its lines and boldness in its limited color, revolutionized tattoo and paved the way for the tattoos we enjoy today.
The availability of color was not what it is today where an artist an order a set of 100 different colors online. in the 1920s' Using only primary colors of Red, Green, Yellow and mixing the colors to create blues, purples and orange was the only option. This method is still being used today by many artists.
Today a lot of artist are adding a modern twist to the traditional tattoo style and giving it a whole new look. Using a wider variety of color and using vibrant background colors to highlight and more detailed line work are just a few examples of how this traditional style that was birthed a century ago and how it has evolved into what we know and love today.
