Trying to Be a Painter

Hi, I'm Meli.
I'm trying to be a painter.
It's terribly frustrating.
Here are a couple of my paintings.

I like your paintings a lot. Why do you struggle?

Thanks.
Primarily because I'd like to be a painter as my profession, which would require people to buy my work. That starts me thinking along the lines of "What would people like to buy?" and then I make crappy art that I think people might buy, rather than painting because I need to get it out.

I totally understand how you feel, cause I always wanted to be an artist since I was about 15 years old. Not being accepted at art-school somehow was very frustrating, but I continued to paint and do all kind of art. I never had the faith to call myself artist, though and in the end I stopped painting about 10 years ago.

Now being at steemit I managed to showcase my artwork from the past and not just received some remarkable reward for that, but also got some personal feedback from fellow steem-users that encouraged me to start being creative again. Also there have been some very interesting collaboration offerings at steemit lately. The cool thing is, that I got rewards just for showing my artwork and still can sell it (e.g. at peerhub).

Also if you struggle between what people want you to do and what 'needs to get out', I would suggest do one artwork, that you think people would buy and after that do an artwork, that just follows your passion. Maybe they are not so different at all. Or maybe you can get the (h)eartwork a bit more commercial and the commercial artwork a bit more filled up with passion. All the best on your way!

All great thoughts. Thank you. I'm excited to share my work a bit more and get people's thoughts and feedback.

You're welcome. Looking forward to seeing more of your work :-)
