Jammu and Kashmir is not only famous for its natural beauty but It is also highly rich in culture and scenic beauty topped with snowy mountains and verdant farms.
It is also famous for its folk music and dance form. Rouf dance is one of the famous folk dance of Jammu & Kashmir.
Both men and women take part and enjoy different dance forms and music. But Rouf dance is only performed by women folks.
This beautiful dance form is performed by women who lined up in two rows facing each other and holding the hands of the adjacent partner. The women together sway their feet forward and backward. The song they sang during this dance is very interesting as it is in the form of question and answer where one group questions and the other group respond to it in a rhythmic way. This dance is mainly performed in springtime as a welcoming dance and on occasions like Ramzaan, weddings and IDD days.
This dance is inspired by bees as they portray lovemaking of the bees in this dance.
