Bridges of St. Petersburg. Alexander Nevsky Bridge.
We will rise even higher along the course of the Neva River and we will see another bridge named after the Novgorod Prince Alexander Nevsky. The Alexander Nevsky Bridge connects Alexander Nevsky Square in the historical part of the city and Zanevsky Avenue.
The Alexander Nevsky Bridge is one of the most "young" bridges in St. Petersburg. The bridge was built and opened for traffic in 1965. Just the bridge of Alexander Nevsky until recently was considered the longest bridge of the city. Its length is 629 meters.
In the early 1950's, there was a technical need to connect the two districts of the city with each other. For these purposes, it was decided to build a modern bridge that can relieve the traffic flow in this place of the city. In 1959, following the results of a tender for the construction of a bridge, Alexander Vladimirovich Zhuk won the project. The group of builders included engineers Evdonin, Klochkov, Stepanov and architect Sinitsa.
Construction work began in 1960 and lasted five years. The bridge was opened in 1965.
The bridge has seven spans. The central span may be opened for navigate ships. The length of the bridge is 629 meters. The width of the bridge is 35 meters.
You met one more bridge in St. Petersburg. I wait for you soon for a walk around the city again.
