Painting from imagination - original artwork by mayasky
''A portrait, to be a work of art, neither must nor may resemble the sitter...one must paint its atmosphere.''
-Umberto Boccioni -
An exercise that is great for practising design and experimentation is to paint from imagination. This portrait I sketched out not long ago simply to try out some sanding techniques and glazing.
If you master painting and drawing from imagination t really opens up a lot of doors not having to depend on models and photo references for every project. I think this is one thing I will try to do a lot more of in the future! :)
Oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm. Colours used; titanium white, raw umber, ivory black, golden umber and terra rosa.
Hope you enjoyed! :)
