Original Drawing Capturing "THE Moment"
If you're married, do remember the moment of what it was like when you popped the question, or had the question popped to you?
That is the moment I was asked to capture.
In this 11" x 14" pencil on paper drawing, the client asked me to do a sketch of that special day when he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring in anticipation. He didn't have any photos of the event, so I took the photos he had, and then put it together in one cohesive drawing.
Reference Photos
This man and his future wife were out hiking at their favorite place and then during the hike, he got down on one knee and proposed. So he sent me some photos of the land, and then he and his fiance.
Now, he didn't have a photo of himself proposing (obviously), so I asked him to come over to my studio and I took some shots of him on one knee, wearing what he wore on that day.
It was January. In Wisconsin.
But amazingly, with the way our weather is so bipolar, it was nearly 50 that day, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
The Process
I did the drawing in pencil using mostly 2B, 4B, 6B and HB lead. Nothing fancy.

This looks INCREDIBLE! Really recreates the day. Glad to hear you enjoyed working on this one. I was a little worried my lack of direction was going to frustrate you.
Not at all. I enjoyed it. I can only imagine what his new wife thought when she opened the very thoughtful gift. It makes the process even more worthwhile, and I think of how blessed I am to be able to do this for a living!
Here's a congratulations to all of you who are married out there...it's an achievement not only to tie the knot, but to keep it from unraveling. :)
