The secret of dahlias is hidden in legends. And I want to tell you another story about this amazing flower.
According to legend, in the period of glaciers, when the first sunbeam took off the shackles of cold, in the place of the extinguished fire rose an unmatched flower and first decorated the earth, marking a new life cycle of the planet. It was a delightful dahlia!
The homeland of the dahlia is considered to be Central and South America. These flowers grew on the slopes of the mountains of Mexico, Peru and Chile. The Aztecs worshiped them as the incarnation of the Sun. And the tubers of this wild plant were used for food.
About how it spread around the world, there is no reliable data, but, supposedly, four hundred years ago, Spanish travelers brought to Europe the roots of dahlias for use in the diet. Europeans did not like the suggested roots, but they were delighted with the flowers of the exotic plant. So in the gardens of Europe, and then throughout the world there were wonderful dahlias.
