ART THERAPY? WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?

Elders of the Enchanted Forest

The first time I found myself in front of a white canvas, I was terrified. I couldn't place a blob of paint on it or hold a brush or a palette knife properly. I was afraid that I will make a fool of myself. I couldn't even decide what colour to add first.

My art teacher and friend told me to stop thinking about the creative process, to shut down my mind and simply try to have fun. She added that art was a journey and I should enjoy the ride instead of fearing it.

Her words helped me gain enough confidence to grab some paint tubes and explore. I had no idea what I was doing, but it felt good. It took away my mind from the pain and that was amazing. In addition, I really enjoyed mixing up colours and experimenting with paint.

Here are some of the paintings I realized during the art therapy class:

I love all of them!!! They are incredible! You are such an artist sweetheart, you amaze me with your creativity!

Thanks! I can't beat your amazingly delicious treats! ;0)

Oh I can't reach your wide creativity dear! You are so amazing talented!❤

I love 'Geisha in the sunset' and 'lonely danser' both very very much! I'd love to hear more about your experiences in art therapy, it's certainly an interesting topic and I'd specifically love to learn how it helps you handle pain better!

Painting enabled me to block the pain and keep my mind focused on the painting. Also it allowed me understand some of my inner fears and how to deal with them, which reduced the intensity of some symptoms I had.

It's amazing art can do that <3

I really like the first image! Abstract but it's great to try and picture what the details are behind the blue. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I like abstract because everyone sees something different ;0)

You are an amazing painter! What can't you do? I would never have considered art therapy for pain. Amazing. Your first painting, Elders of the Enchanted Forest actually reminded me of kayaking. (Yes I have kayaking on the brain) Figures in the "water" took me a minute to see but once I did I was amazed. You certainly got better over time. Just lovely. Thanks for sharing these.

When I look at it, it does resemble more to the front of a kayak instead of a muddy path. Maybe I should change its name. ;0)

Honestly speaking, your arts work are awesome. I wish i could paint like that.
@lymepoet.

Thank you. I think anyone can do whatever they put their mind to. I was convinced I can't draw or paint and here we go!

My late father used art therapy in counseling and I used it for criminology.

Glad that you have discovered the cathartic effects it has to offer.

The mind body connection is amazing, no?

Criminology and art? Hmm! That sounds really interesting! ;0)

I love the Geishi in the sunset as it invokes a certain sadness in me but then that could just be me trying to put my emotions on that image (the word escapes my brain-farting sleepy mind right now hahaha)

The arts has always been a way used by people to do therapy as the freedom and creatiive helps in being able to internalize and then express their feelings, channel their pain and /or divert their mind to other things.

Your guess was right, there was sadness in that painting. Good eyes ;0)

Cool I though I was just projecting myself hahahha

"Geisha in the sunset" is jaw-droppingly awesome! Sounds like you've uncovered some hidden talent. Great job and thank you for sharing!

Thank you! Looks like others like the Geisha as well ;0)

'Geisha in the sunset' is simple and complete to me. Thank you.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

Beautiful I love them all @lymepoet.

Thank you! xox
