This painting was ultimately a study to see if these two very distinct approaches to painting could ever unite into a singular expression. This was the tip of the iceberg, and since then this fusion of polarities has begun to define the quest to allow all the inner artist voices to be expressed.
Being artists with interests in many genres of art, it can often feel like we have multiple personalities or styles. Of course the gallery world wants their artists to be predictable from one painting to the next. Perhaps this paradigm is on its way out..paving the way for the celebration of diversity within a single artist's ouvre..
The line we borrow from a dear friend is: "My studio looks like a group show"
After all, Art is more about creativity than capitalism...in theory!

This started out as a black & white underpainting, so all the colors neutralized a bit
(other than the figure, of course).

i love a good collaboration, regardless of the medium. it's fun to see what two creative minds can bring to the table and still make coherent and beautiful (or beautifully discordant, whichever suits the project). really nicely done!
