Dwarf Portrait

in #art7 years ago

Today's study was an attempt at quick sketch of a dwarf character. I happened to record a video of the process, though, there is no narration this time. Just music. Enjoy!

How come you "flipped" it halfway through? Trying to find the dwarven chocolate side? ^^

Excellent technique and a neat final product!
ZugZug!

I flipped the image simply to check for issues. In older times, artists used to look at their paintings in mirrors in order to spot mistakes. It helps to see the painting with fresh eyes again so that you can spot mistakes. Like in my painting here, I didn't notice that his brow and eyes were wonky until I flipped the image. When you look at something one way for a long time, you sort of just start to ignore mistakes likes that because you get used to them.

Thanks for the comment/question!

Fascinating!
I suppose the analog equivalent is, as you said, looking at it through a mirror. Legends say that it's also a good idea to simply get up now and again and look at your work from different distances to get a better feel for it (depth/composition/color balance). Truly, the simplest tools are the most powerful ;)
Cheers for the thoughful reply.
