Malaysia's New Hope [ Day 15 Hope #ramadhansketchchallenge2018]
Malaysia's New Hope, 2018. Procreate app, digital sketch on ipad Pro.
Real time: 50 min.
The process.
Today's word is rather more robust. 'Hope' as hard as it might sound, i think its a chance for me to create a more meaningful and high impact piece of artwork. So the idea that came to my mind was a piece that express a message of 'a new hope' for Malaysia to resemble the current big thing that happened in Malaysia recently where Malaysia was introduced our '2nd independence day' after our first time changed our government after 60 years.
To include a familiar and popular reference into the artwork, ive decided to include few contents in the artwork.
Ive started off the drawing with a simple brush of a silhouette of Kuala Lumpur skylne, specifically a view from the Indepencence Square ( Dataran Merdeka) to give the overall composition a hint. Played around with different opacity of silhouette to create depth of the frame.
Once satisfied, i started to put in detailing of the buildings facades and highlight some detail elements of the moorish architecture of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (on the left), the post modern high rise building in the middle and the iconic flag post on the right.

Putting a hint of green as a contrast colour to highlight the historic field where we first commenced Malaysian independent on 31st August 1957.
The other reference that ive included in the drawing was the Millenium Falcon from Starwars as a symbol of 'hope' landing on this historic field. Millenium Falcon is one of the most iconic space ship flew by Han Solo and Chewbacca that was fighting for the 'rebellion' to fight the dark side.
Started with this rough sketch over the view whilst making sense of the composition, as in showing the movement of the space ship landing onto the independence square.
Detailing the sketch with some shading by playing with light and shadows.
I though its a good idea to make it more dramatic by adding some ambiance of rain as well as some reflections from the puddled field to give it a more melancholic feelings.
Enhancing it with some more strokes of brush and some bokeh to enrich it with more moods.
Some little details to create excitement in the piece.
and voila! its done :)
This is amazing I love the colour of the background and the rough sketchy lines!
