Masterpiece vintage prints

in #art7 years ago

I can't help but notice the similarities that some vintage prints have in common with the works of famous artists. Print makers must have been inspired, don't you think?

Take the vintage 1950s swimsuit above, for example. The colors, brushstrokes and style are strikingly similar to Paul Cézanne's Three Bouquets of Flowers, c. 1880. While his was an oil painting and the swimsuit print has a more watercolor feel, the inspiration must have been there.

This vintage swimsuit, also from the 1950s, has an impressionist water-lily look that seems to mimic the work of Claude Monet.

Floral prints seem to be among the most easily recognized to have influence from the likes of Vincent Van Gogh, such as his painting Irises (1889) to this vintage swimsuit print from the 1960s.

Or this Van Gogh, Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies (1887), whose colors are replicated in this vintage bikini print.

This vintage dress covered in dots reminds me of Roy Lichtenstein's pop-art paintings. (Female Figure, 1977)

Not only do we see floral prints take inspiration from world-renowned art, this vintage dress from the 1960s surely had influence from Jackson Pollock's abstract expressionist painting, Autumn Rhythm, Number 30 (1950).

This ink-splotch painting by Sam Francis, SF 92-14, looks remarkably similar to the print on this vintage 1960s dress

Even classic works of the Renaissance give me a déjà vu moment, much like this painting by Raphael called Madonna Della Seggiola (c.1515) and the style of this vintage turban-style hat

We've all made sunprints at some times in our lives and this floral print on a vintage 1960s swimsuit looks straight off the paper.

And, last but not least, the big, beautiful poppy paintings by Georgia O'Keeffee (Red Poppy, 1927) surely could have inspired the big, beautiful poppies on this vintage dress from the 1960s.

Really cool prints :) First one my favourite. Did you know that Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam actually encourages people to create arts and craft with motifs taken from their collection? True story

Wow, I did not know that! I'll have to check that out. Thanks so much—I think the first one's my favorite, too. :)
