But what exactly is a Pop Art?

The artistic trend, which was called pop-art, was born in the USA and Great Britain in the early fifties of the twentieth century. Pop art in art manifests the consumer lifestyle of people who began to draw from material goods.

This type of art was strongly influenced by mass culture, which was created by advertisements, both television and banners, logos of well-known companies, comics and colorful magazines especially for women. They also drew from surrealism, which has been present in art for thirty years. What distinguished pop-art from other current trends in art is the fact that he often used something that already exists to create a work, eg a known advertising picture. Pop-art aimed to introduce, transform them so as to highlight his kitschiness and banality.

In the United Kingdom, the precursors of pop-art are the London Independent Group, which is a group of young painters, sculptors, architects and other art representatives who did not like the "devout" approach to art and culture. Their movement was established in 1952. The precursor of pop-art works and the creator of the name of this trend was Eduardo Paolozzi. This sculptor created a collage series of what he had collected over the past few years in France. These were primarily comics, advertising, graphics, book covers. His most famous work is "I was a Rich Man's Plaything". Other important artists from the islands are: David Hockney, Peter Phillips, Richard Hamilton, and Peter Blake.

In the United States, although pop-art appeared at the same time, it was not until 1960 that, under the influence of the advertising market, which was then beginning to mark its presence, it developed as a cultural phenomenon. In this country, the most important representatives of this trend are: Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselmann. It is not them, however, who will be deeply rooted in human consciousness. The master of pop art until now, invariably remains Andy Warhol. It is difficult to find someone who does not know the portrait made of several pictures of the actress Marilyn Monroe
