Comic Book Art - Traffic Review

in #art8 years ago

Here we review original, pro, comic book art that has recently traded hands among art dealers. These images are high resolution photos of the original artwork, not prints. Soak it up now, this stuff is very rare and much of it gets locked away for many years after purchase.

The Walking Dead Omnibus Cover #1 by Charlie Adlard

The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows and as we all know, the TV show was inspired by the Comic Books. This piece from 2005 shows all of our favorite characters, Rick, Carl (Correl), Michonne, Andrea, Morgan and more. Fantastic details, great use of negative space and check out the zombie still wearing his glasses. The new owner of this piece does not mention the cost paid but clearly indicates that it is no longer for sale. Seeing as how the new owner claims this is the most published piece from the series, it is hard to imagine it selling for much less than 10k USD.

Guardians of the Galaxy Cover by Arthur Adams

More monsters and babes by Arthur Adams. It looks like the owner might be willing to sell this piece but they really seem interested in showing off their new piece of art collected. This piece carries the signature style and incredible sense of composition that one would expect from an Adams piece. It is hard to imagine this piece selling for less than 5k USD.

Cyclops and Phoenix Saga by Clay Mann

This is an emotional piece depicting the ending of the Phoenix Saga. You have all seen the movie and read the books, you know what is going on here. Cyclops and Jean Grey will never be the same again. It looks like this piece was created by commission for someone who had cash ready to go. Hard to tell how many times it has changed hands, but this piece is currently on sale for $900.00 at EBay.

Logan in Tokyo by Jorge Fornés

This piece makes me feel far from home and maybe a bit lonely. But for Logan, that is probably OK. A fantastic use of one point perspective and negative space adds to a composition that forces the viewer to really look for Logan. There is a lot going on here, there is a great deal of clutter in these Tokyo streets and Logan seems to blend right in. However, once you spot Logan, there is no mistaking it's him.

Classic Wolverine by Oliver Coipel

Another Wolverine piece sells last week for just under $1000 on Ebay. This is a classic 1980's take on Wolverine that is one of my favorite styles. The two tone tan suit is how I remember Wolverine in his prime.

Sort:

Nice art, and good post. It made me wax nostalgic on some Kevin Sembieda stuff for Rifts and Paladium... The first two pieces feel like something I'd see in one of his RPG books.
