Embellished cow

This is one of my first paintings after a long long break. This painting is inspired by the Maasai culture that holds on to the belief that all cattle in the world belong to them because God gave it to them. They have a deep and almost sacred relationship with cattle and often keep large herds.

The Maasai women are renowned for their amazing beadwork which plays an essential element in the ornamentation of the body. While a large number of Maasai tribe still practice nomadic pastoralism, an increasing number is now absorbed into modern day jobs working in the public and private sectors and particularly in Kenya's and Tanzania's tourism industry.
