Will Rees' Warhammer 40,000 Illustrations
Sometimes you have artists that have influenced you or impressed you that you do not know the name of. For many years Donald Duck cartoonist Carl Barks was only know as, The good artist, as Disney didn't attribute their employees.
Today I incidentally found some works of an artist I only knew from the 1987 tabletop game, Warhammer 40,000, a game set in the most dystopian universe ever. This first rulebook had so many great illustrations that it easily could compete with a taschen art-book. One of the artists that made the greatest impression on me was... (well, I didn't know his name until today), Will Rees. It was even hard to find his name on the internet. But here are some of his illustrations from the Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader rulebook. Killer stuff! I am sure @mikkolyytinen will love it.
(All these images belongs to Games Workshop and Will Rees I suppose. I haven't been able to find the details.)
Stunning works, that instantly reminded me of the works of H.R. Giger. Glad, that you give the quite unknown artists a name (Shame on Disney ;-)
When I have time I will try to find some more...
Amazing find, indeed! I've taken part in some Warhammer Fantasy campaigns here & there, but what really drew me in the game was the illustrations. I was the proud owner of Realm of Chaos: the Lost and the Damned, a game sourcebook that for me was more of an artbook, filled with the best b&w drawings I've seen in fantasy books. It contained this picture -- and check out the rest of that blog too, since I feel that you like niche topics and people ;)
To me it was also mainly the artworks. They really had a great way of picking them back then. I also remember the Realm of Chaos books. Later it all became heroic fantasy in the US tradition - good vs. evil, which is boring. I liked it better when it described an endless nightmare of anachronistic sci-fi war controlled by mad priests.
Thanks for the link. Seems to be just my thing.
This art style remindedes me of some concept art from the alien movies...cool stuff!
Fun stuff. Thanks for the share.
Wow, just wow. Amazing. I love finding new artists to be enthralled by. It's funny how an artist with such work can just get lost in the shuffle as it were, I'm glad you put a name to the artwork.
The better you look the more you see. Thanks for digging up these works...
amazing find! These are the Hammer! I wonder if my friends at Illuxcon know him!?
This is their website http://www.illuxcon.com/ix-home.html - Patrick Wilshire, the founder, is a member of my artist network.

That stuff is so cool! Looks right out of a Ridley scott film. I'd love to see more!
I see a lot of H.R. Giger in his style, but all of it is very well done with fantastic detail. Thanks for sharing, I had never heard of him.
