"Mask of mind" | Original artwork 1990
I loved old walls, brittle plaster, colored remains of paint. Such surfaces were an inspiring voyage of discovery for me in the late 1980 I began to prepare my canvases similarly to the weathered surfaces. Beginning with a coloured primer, followed by an overlay, a mixture of chalk/plaster and binder, which is then broken, painted over and partly wiped off. In this work I condensed my ability to associatively see, to connect my vision directly with the unconscious. The painting belongs to my images of liberation and represents an essential step in my self-exploration. During the painting I lifted up this mask, my conditioned identity and for the first time I met my inner being, which seemed to consist of pure sensitivity.
