Maman ~ The Giant Spider
In 2005, the giant bronze spider sculpture named Maman was installed at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. The spider sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois stands 30' (9.14 metres). One of its interesting features is its sac of 26 white marble spider eggs.
In the photo beside and behind the spider, can be seen the National Gallery, designed by architect Moshe Safdie who also designed the people village at Expo 67. The art gallery's great hall is meant to mimic the nearby Library of Parliament that sits behind the Parliament buildings overlooking the Ottawa River.
