Looking at old drawings: Art as endless potential
Simply calling it "Tree"
Completed early 2014
I never plan these kinds of drawings. I only select a basic, underlying pattern, often based on numbers or proportion. and the drawing draws itself from there. Selecting color is always challenging. As with all other aspects of drawing, balance is key.
Many of them take hours to develop, only to turn out as a failed lab experiment softly gurgling ‘killmeee’ (In an Alien: Resurrectionesque kind of way.) I’ll post those later.
The potentials are endless, though. As each drawing develops, a unique personality emerges.
As for the survivors, they accept less and less suggestion as they develop. No more circles here, no more weight to those lines, etc. The picture tells you how to balance it.
In the final stages, more obvious referents emerge as the details and texture produce familiar themes and images. Pyramids, windows, and the sun frequently appear somewhere on the earlier drawings.
