History of Carving in Aceh

in #art8 years ago

Hi Steemian's, This is a brief history of engraving in Aceh-Sumatra

History is important, understanding of history should be owned by all people to know and understand the meaning of the events of the past so that it can be used as a reference to face the present and determine the future.

This is my wood carving. Wood carvings using floral motifs with Aceh characteristic.

As an engraver, of course I must know the history of engraving, especially the history of engraving in my country, Aceh.
Aceh has a long history of engraving, and not many people know it, even for the engraver of Aceh. Generally, the history of engraving may have started thousands of years ago, while in Aceh the oldest carvings have been found originating from the beginning of the 13th century, in the form of tombstones (stonecarving). On the tombstone there is epigraph that mentions the age of the tombstone itself, namely 1226 M.

In the 15th century carving art has developed very rapidly, in the form of design, production, and motives. Carved tombstone was found in significant amounts in Aceh, with so many tombstones carved discovered in Aceh certainly Aceh also have a much engraver, and of course they are a great engraver. This can be proved from their carvings which we can still see today. Motif carvings found on his tombstone are mostly floral and geometric motifs. Tombstones engraved has become a culture in Aceh at that time and continuously growing until the end of the 19th century.

Wood carving is also already in Aceh since hundreds of years ago, the people of Aceh have been giving special attention to the development of carving art. To this day we still get to see a wide variety of other types of engraving are applied in traditional houses, mosques, the pulpit and the other wooden objects.

With so many carved objects found in Aceh has made Aceh as a country rich in culture, rich in creative people. Without creativity, the motif will be monotonous and uninteresting.

History is a source of inspiration and motivation for me to continue to grow. Therefore, history must be preserved, in order to be a lesson for the next generation.
