Art and mystery of Barcelona: the House of Cuatre Cats

It does not stop being, curiously interesting, that both a hotel establishment and the building that houses it, are located on a street whose name, Montsió-Mount Sion-contains such an important load of symbolic references, some of them, related to an authentic and legendary object of power that, although supposedly lost during the dark years of the Muslim invasion, is still supposedly conveniently hidden somewhere in the Iberian Peninsula: the famous Table or Table of Solomon.

So, in this venerable, urbanite, county and comparatively speaking 'Monte Sion', saw the light, in 1896, born with the grace of romanticism and imagination, a building of clear neo-Gothic aspect, so related to this new movement modernist or 'Reinaixença' that, however, was characterized in part because it looked towards the beauty of the past with eyes of the future.

Contemporary of Maestro Gaudí, Maestro Cadafalch - prolific father who was also the great Casa Ametller (https://steemit.com/smwchallenge/@juancar347/chronicles-of-the-magic-barcelona-casa-amatller) - soon its basses would have become notoriously famous when a year later, on June 12, 1897, one of its first godfathers -Pere Romeu i Borrás- opened for the public of the time a hotel establishment that, based on the glamorous Le Chat Noir or The Parisian Black Cat, collected the best of the French tradition in terms of environmentally Bohemian venues that collect, collectively, the magic of the brewery, the restaurant and the cabaret.

It is not surprising, then, that during the six years that it remained open, it represented an authentic reference for the cream of the intellectuals of the aforementioned Catalan modernist movement. Today, although with notable differences, the Cuatre Cats continues to develop its restoration work, being one of the most notable and popular establishments in the city, meeting point, mainly, people related to the world of entertainment and politics.
