Ahhh... what I see in a painting. First I note that it is in the primitive style, which has a charm of innocence and directness that can often border on a state closer to dreams. As hinted in other comments there is a longing with the sea being outside and a fantastic creature being in a container that is too small. Not only that there is a question with the water boiling on the stove, is it to make a nice warm comforting cup of tea to drink or is it something that is going to burn a sensitive being that is trapped in a curious situation? It reminded me of the story of the frog in the pot of slowly heating water, which BTW was disproved by someone actually doing the experiment. The frogs they had jumped out!

A deeper thought is that in the creation, in the world of things and limitations there is always the potential for conflict because of polarities (hot-cold, far-near, big-small, etc.). These polarities never resolve themselves and stay in conflict if attended on that level of separation and individual definition. However there is a transcendence which is the reality of unity which includes all without limitation or condition. In that field there is nothing to do with separation and all conflict is resolved.
