'Pop' Culture

in #art7 years ago

A friend of mine has been painting for years; she goes to art school, is generally one of those lost souls who was born into the wrong generation (like I'm sure a lot of you guys can relate to), and wants to start selling her art. However, the biggest problem with this is that she lacks the know how in terms of where to start, how to price her work, and most importantly how to choose who she wants to sell it to (considering there's only one copy of each painting). I personally think she has talent pouring onto the canvas and would excel with commissioned work, but like many artists, she doesn't think she's good enough. If she can connect with her subject as well as she does with the few paintings she's actually shared with me, then I think she'd be going places and going fast. Any and all thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
This one is two still frames reimagined from the song 'What Shall We Do Now?' in the movie, "The Wall", about Pink Floyd's Roger Waters.IMG_0199.jpeg
Mick Jagger, singer with the Rolling Stones, commissioned Jon Pasche, who was then a young student at the Royal College of Art in London, to produce the logo after seeing his designs at the Royal College of Art final degree show in 1970. This is her recreation of that logo.

This one is a completely original work, that pays homage to the 1973 psychedelic adventure, "The Belladonna of Sadness"...one of my favorites.IMG_0279.JPG
This picture is comprised of a few different paintings, the two largest of the four being ones that most people could point out instantly. On the left we have Grandpa Rick torturing Morty on one of their wild adventures; on the right we have a stunning rendition of The Beatles: John, Paul, George and Ringo alla Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band. To me, this painting encapsulates that feeling I got when I listened to Sgt. Pepper for the first time on my dad's 8-track player. Almost hidden underneath to the left is that moment from from Pulp Fiction when Mia snorts a line of what she assumes is some good cocaine, but then ends up OD'ing on heroin. To the right of that is honestly just some cool, dope ass art.

So yeah fellas, have at it! I really want to show her that there is a community out there that truly honors great art and the feelings that can be evoked from quality work as well as potentially help her find some buyers for some pieces. Cheers to all of you and cheers to Steemit for a bright future and maintaining a great community thus far!
