San Diego De Alcala Parish Ciudad De Silay!

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Before we discuss the History of the San Diego De Alcala Parish. Let me share to you first a brief introduction about Silay City. This information I gathered was originally came from the imprinted marble fasten on the wall of the City Office.

Geographic Location

Silay City occupies the central portion of Negros Occidental. It is 14 kilometers North of Bacolod City the provinces capital. It's northern and southern boundaries are separated by the Municipality of EB Magallona and the City of Talisay respectively while it's eastern boundary is separated by mount Mandalagan ranges and the western boundary is defined by Guimaras Strait. Silay is characterized by a broad plain terrain of about seven kilometers in width starting from its coastline in Barangays .

Guinhalaran, Mambulac, Lantad and Balaring and extended inland to about twenty-five kilometers. Beyond this limit are series of rugged hills and mountain ranges covering barangay's Capitan Ramon, Guimbala-on and Patag. Three major rivers called Malogo, Malisbog and Imbang with several tributaries criss-cross the entire area of Silay making it conducive to crop production.

The church of San Diego De Alcala was built in 1925 through the generosity of Don Jose Ledesma, a knight of St. Gregory the Great and the " Silaynons " addressed to the people living in Silay City. Architectural design done by Italian architect Lucio Bernasconi.

Works on repair and renovation initiated over the years under various parish with the major one starting in 2002 and completed in 2005 in time for the church's 80th Anniversary with theme " At 80, To God be the Glory " [ Rom. II,36 ]

Renovated church blessed by the most Rev. Vicente M. Navarra, D.D., Bishop of Bacolod on November 13, 2005, feast of San Diego De Alcala.

Dome Shape Ceiling

Its famous rich dome is similar to the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome. Then it's architectural grandeur and treasury of religious art is testament to Silaynon's deep faith and devotion.

The of San Diego De Alcala is one of the enduring and noticeable landmarks in the City. Where is visible to the main road and no reason for you to miss out this place.

The Lightings/Chandeliers

The ceiling chandeliers that are hanging are original pieces from the year that San Diego De Alcala Parish was built. Similar to old Spanish decorative chandeliers to make it more glamorous. Then what I notice that some portion on the ceiling are started to peel off that needed some repainting.

Wall Decors

Common wall decors are seems to be visible in most old churches. These religious wall hanging sculptured frames are made in plaster of paris bordered with solid wood coated with oil based wood stain.

It is a sequence story of Jesus Christ during his suffering, agony on mount cavalry and until the time God the Father took his last breath.

Interior of The Church

These are collage images of the interior where you can see the altar. Where the priest giving his devotional words and sermons during masses. The candle platform at the side where you can you lit your candles and pray for someone soul or whatever is your prayer intention.

The light coming from outside that reflects on the colored stained glass illuminates the scene of the interior from every corner of the church.

The Black Nazarene

This enclosed clear glass where you can see the Black Nazarene inside. Is located at the back portion of the church, where there is a room available for those who wants to pray privately.

Both sides have sculptures of Saints designed for every devotee. But this place are only available when there is no ongoing mass. People are not allowed to stay in these rooms if mass is already started.

The San Diego De Alcala Parish is under renovation the time I visited the place. But it's still open for wedding, baptism, mass and etc.

Actually there is a scheduled wedding ceremony that day. Which is kinda weird because the decorations and pew bows hanging on the isle are covered by these installed long steel pipes. Which I believed it doesn't matter because for me the most important is the union of two people into one flesh. Where the blessings and sacred of marriage is given upon them.

I decided to stop taking photos after an hour because the wedding ceremony is about to begin.

All the images was originally taken by my Nikon Coolpix S2700 camera and some context was manually input from the sculptures.
