Da-igon sa Paskwa " The Christmas Carolers "

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Da-igon is a Hiligaynon term or sometime we called it " Pangaroling " or Christmas Caroling in English. A Traditional Filipino culture existed until today. But during our time we are using customize musical instruments , we collect " Tansan " Bottle cap. First, we flatten all of them using hammer and making a hole at the center then we will insert the GI wire or flexible rod that we can form a circle. Lastly, tie the both ends using plier and finally you can start your Christmas caroling using these customize tambourines made from indigenous materials with out spending money from your pocket.

To easily collect the number of bottle caps we needed for our tambourines. You can go to the nearest sari-sari store at your place then ask the owner if you can collect their bottle caps for free. Actually most sari-sari store or convenient outlets dispose the used bottle caps so no reason for them not to grant your request. But, make sure you ask them and never take it without permission from the owner.

During Christmas season you can see some children, teenagers or even adult people visiting your home and do the carolings. But usually only kids are using this musical instrument that most Filipino kids know how to make a tambourine from pieces of bottle caps.

Even I know how to make customize tambourines when I was young. Our parents helping us to flatten the caps and we remove the rubber coating that sticks under the cup to create a better sounds every time we move our hands.

We do caroling every Christmas season to collect money to buy gifts for our parents before Christmas eve. We can earn less than hundred pesos per night, then we divide our earnings equally to the member who joined the caroling that night.

We keep our money to our respective " Alkansiya " and spend it on the day after we finish our last caroling.
