Photography Retro Look practice

Speaking of the possibilities of pictures and their appreciation in the developing room, my previous post on High Contrast spoke from a more academic point of view of black and white and its good use in order to highlight, above all, the form. It is a very simple aspect to achieve in beach photography, as I well mentioned there. But today I bring some photos in the same place but that had a variation in the light (by the value of the frame) and that no longer worked for me in High Contrast as to experience something that I have been experiencing for a while:

The "retro" print.

The retro aesthetic is trendy, with all the technological advances of the image, shooting in digital, HD, 4K, the vintage look worn and with grain continues to get more applause. Achieving this effect with the DSLR is precisely an effect, because you have to remake EVERYTHING, the good thing is that it helps you to understand the values of the image as the CONTRAST and the GRAIN.

Both tools are fundamental to achieve this effect, here I have an example by which I can't decide, what applies more to the aesthetic retro? That one of a soft contrast or that one of an intense grain? The one that has more contrast and grain, by the definition of its image seems to me a better result, however this would be only a part of achieving the style.

- Less contrast

Then comes the manipulation of color, vintage is often associated with greenish, purple or reddish (sepia) colors, almost completely tinting the image, one of the tricks of this development is to bring precisely the shadows of the image to one of those colors and keep the lights in the range of greens.

In this case, I used the purple tones and leveling with the greens gave these results. Applying also the contrast, grain and basic development, where shadows are softened and intensifies granulate.

This results in a much more harmonious image with less definition of color and shape, as was the case with this old technology. But to achieve this effect also requires certain intrinsic conditions of the photo, again, with the sun as strong as that of the beach, these photographs in analogue would shoot a greyish or almost completely shaded colour. However, the intensity of the light was something that could not be eliminated from these photographs because they would lose their essence completely.

It is necessary to practice and see the result, already knowing a little the technique, in a photograph with an environment and possibilities a little more willing to this style Vintage, however it seemed interesting to me to see how these photographs remained with this development, for the whole theme half beach/vacation/youth/house on the beach.
