Nostalgia for light | Photos
This is a small exercise from one of my classes for the fifth semester of my career. The subject is "Non-Linear Editing Workshop" and it is a study on digital editing, machine operation and editing program; I have learned a lot about the real capabilities of the computer and about Open Source and all its possibilities and varieties.
But without a doubt it has been a difficult process because, as many people know, the situation in Venezuela has been very tense and the university environment has been difficult, with many suspension of classes and the famous blackout. So the professor sent us a work entitled "The Nostalgia for Light" inspired by the film with the same name of Patricio Guzmán where, with photographs of Professor Jesús Odremán, we would try to talk about how this experience had been for us.
This is Venezuelan Heaven in 2019
That's how some of us saw it
devouring us
Tirelessly
The shadow
The imaginary
The creature
With its infinite silence
This is the heart of Venezuelans in 2019
The task was to develop the photographs and then montage them on a video track. I had to paint the sky in Red (the emblem colour of Chavism and Communism) to make it clear whose fault it was, and that this blackout was not a joke, it took the lives of many and shook them, even to death. So I wanted to do something more critical and frontal.
In all, it was an exercise that I liked a lot. And another step towards poetry in images that I am so interested in working on.
