Art and Stones - Complimentary Counterpoint Creations

Although they were painted several years apart, doesn't this little 'Said in Stones' pebble trio look as if it was made to match 'We Fall Only to Rise Again', the mini artwork in my last post?!

I love to see creations from my Said in Stones collection hanging out with my artwork. To the casual observer, they may seem quite different, but they really do compliment each other beautifully. As an artist, I find the two disciplines equally compelling, each in its own unique way. The focus, containment and patience required to work with the stones and pebbles which come to me is a very different energy than that which is involved in creating a huge, splashy, wild 100 x 150 cm abstract on canvas, for example. And yet the two are not as far apart as they may seem - an inherent part of both processes is the space and the absolute mindful-yet-open focus I create around my work; the reflective looking and listening which is as vital to the creation of both types of work as the brush strokes or pen marks themselves. The entirely spontaneous, playful-respectful nature of my working approach means that each and every canvas or pebble is a singular, unrepeatable moment in time, captured and offered lovingly as a gift to you or the special person you are gifting onwards to...
