Melted Crayon Art of Lion

This is a project that I made in my school art class. It is made from melted wax crayons and was a little tricky, but was still very fun to do!

This is the process I used to make this piece:

Materials used:
18 x 14 Canvas
Crayola Crayons (red, orange, golden-yellow, black, white) Using good quality crayons will ensure a better result.
3H pencil
Heat Gun (a hair dryer will work, but it will take longer)
Cardboard
Acrylic Paint (white and orange)

How to make it:

1. Draw the outline of the lion using a 3H pencil, or make very light markings with a regular one. The goal is to not let the pencil show through the colors, so make it as light as possible. I even made little markings of how far I wanted the color to drip up to.
2. Set up a work area so that the cardboard covers the table or floor. Be sure to cover the walls as well, because the wax tends to splatter.
3. Peel the paper from the crayons
4. Use the heat gun on the lowest setting, then increase the intensity if needed. Hold the red crayon over the desired area and rock the gun back and forth. Be sure to point downwards as it will splatter. What I did was to melt the crayon partly, then quickly using it like a paint brush to color the desired area. Continue to do this with all the colors until it looks the picture above or to your desired look. I suggest testing out these colors on a piece of paper beforehand, so that you do not ruin the canvas. Do not put the heat gun too close to the canvas as there is a possibility that it could burn.
5. Leave the canvas to dry and put dime-sized amounts of white and orange acrylic paint into a paint holder.
6. Use the orange paint to make the eyes, nose and mouth of the lion. The white paint can be used to cover any imperfections or accidental splatter.
7. And now you're done!
