Thanks for visiting and commenting @janton!

It's most likely the result of changes in the greater structure of society. We have an aging population, and as people age they tend to downsize their living spaces, which means more "selling" than "acquiring." As a result of that, there is more "secondary market" art competing with new art.

Meanwhile, younger people are choosing different lifestyles. These often don't include home ownership — more and more are choosing to be "cyber nomads" who travel from place to place with no ties. The other thing we are seeing is this shift from "objects" to "experiences." Someone who has $1000 to spend on something is now more likely to spend it on an experience than a "thing" like art.

Online sales certainly has had an impact, too.

howdy again @reddragonfly! wow this is really interesting and thank you for taking the time to expound on the situation. So the expression "starving artist" is more true than ever it seems. That's too bad. doesn't sound right.
I didn't know the shift was going to experiences rather than objects.
thanks again reddragonfly!

Artists may not be starving any more than they used to, fortunately. Thanks to places like Steemit, Patreon and various others, artists now have "crowdfunding" sources they didn't have before.

oh I didn't realize that, well that's encouraging news, thank you reddragonfly!
