A FISH GRASPING FOR AIR - AN IRONY

In the last ten years our waters have borne the brunt of serious pollution accidents, but these are becoming less common as technologies develop and the affects become better understood. But, there is still an awful lot to learn about the effects of polluting our marine environments. Often the pollution cannot be seen by the naked eye, and sometimes pollution will never disappear from the water.

In many ways it is our own actions that lead to pollution and in some cases we can do something about it. For example, buying local products reduces the demand for food from overseas, reducing the amount of ships needed to carry this food, and in turn reducing the pollution they cause on the oceans and the waste they dispose of.

I would like to commend @jacinta.sevilla for initiating this movement. I believe that with this, we could create a splash in the community and help eventually save our oceans; a small step from us, a big step for mankind.

Congratulations for your contest!! Thank you for this opportunity.

My entry

I made a tradixdigi art forthis competition and entitled it: A Fish Grasping For Air - An Irony.

Why would a fish, living in the vast ocean grasp for air above it? Why would a fish who can breathe underwater go above it's natural habitat to look for air? Is there something wrong with the fish? Has the world gone haywire that a fish would do such a bizarre thing?

My work is supposed to open every one's eyes. There is nothing wrong with the fish. Everything is okay with it. It is the sea around it that has gone haywire. Before, it was assumed that because the ocean was so big, vast and deep, that the effects of dumping trash and litter into the sea would only have minimal consequences. But as we have seen, this has proven to not be the case. While all four oceans have suffered as a result of human consequence for over millennia by now, it has accelerated in the past few decades. Oil spills, toxic wastes, floating plastic and various other factors have all contributed to the pollution of the ocean.
