At some point in life we are attracted to some work of art, as if establishing a link with the artist, as happens with the famous works that move us from Van Gogh, or Renaissance sculptures.

In this case, it happened to me, with this project entitled Preservation, presented by an American photographer named Blake Little, as a different proposal, using corporality as a medium, and the discourse it presents is interesting.

In this publication I will write about this work of photographic art, as a new publication model, where I will make small criticisms towards art and some works that call my attention.

On February 28, 2015 presented this series of bodies bathed in honey, an extraordinary work, where the naked body bathed in honey predominates, along with the reactions of each portrayed.

''When you cover someone with honey has the effect of making it look like they are in amber, they are preserved. And that's how I got to the idea of starting to call these images as preservation photographs.''

Blake materializes the idea of a body in a state of preservation and achieves it in an aesthetically correct way, gray backgrounds attached to the honey color, where it can be observed that not only a body type predominates but several, it is interesting to capture that human reaction, where it does not give space to the gaze of being.

As you know, the look is supposed to be the most representative of a person, a look can say many things, or can show an absolute banality, Blake replaces the look by the body, by the reaction to having all that honey covering the body, the reaction as a sample of personality.

''The other thing about covering someone with honey is that, in few exceptions, their eyes are closed. The eyes are for me the key to a powerful portrait. But without the eyes, being covered with honey, that physical emotion, replaces the emotion of the eyes. That's why the photographs continue to be portraits. People react differently to experience.''

This is how bodies take on unique shapes, joined to a natural component, transforming themselves into sculptures through a photograph, thanks to the texture of honey the body acquires another meaning for Blake, immortality, which later shows us in this great work.

''I have noticed that there is something universal about people who are covered in honey, so I wanted to use different types of models and body types. The transformation is amazing because it changes, distorts and amplifies the human body.''

To finish, photography acts as another artistic medium, with which you can create unique things with such immediacy, opening space for all possibilities, such as representing immortality and life at the same time in these photographs made by Blake Little, of which they can say many things, without a doubt it is a great work that deserves to be shared and seen.

If you would like to see the process of how these photographs are made, below I show a video of the artist's process while making them, with a large production and liters and liters of honey.

The artist has done an incredible job, very unique idea. Imagine the clean up afterwards though... Hahaha.

This is an incredible project! I have never seen anything like this, and it is so intriguing! My favorite shot, I think, is the one with the woman who looks like a ballerina, with leotard and skirt, but all are amazing. And it was so good to see you back again! 😊
