Hay Festival - The World’s greatest Festival of Arts & Literature

Excitement is building. I live only 20 miles from Hay on Wye; The second-hand book capital of the world. Over 30 book shops I read somewhere, which for a small town means every shop apart from the butcher, baker and greengrocer.

Hotels and Pubs. Even the cafes get in on the town book fame too, with many having book racks to browse.

The year Bill Clinton came was exceptionally exciting. The permanent residents in a small community know one another and what is going on.

The chattering amongst gatherings became more and more feverish, and the stories increasingly wilder, the closer to opening day it got.

Everyone knew someone who knew someone that had a relative that USA President Mr Clinton was staying with. Yeh, right!

With 100% vote I am supporting you as you spread the word about an extraordinary event. Unfortunately I am not anymore in UK but always will keep great memories of your country. How on earth you can have so many second hand bookshops in Hay on Wye? Who buys all the books or even read them?
Here is what I just found in a little village nearby in South of Germany:
https://steemit.com/hemingway/@johano/libra-abundo
Free books in so called Open Book Stores.
Hope you will enjoy the festival!

Thank you Johano.

So many books. It does seem over the top,but tiny Hay on Wye has been attracting book worms all year round for years, so it obviously works.

I looked at the page you provided a link to about a similar enterprise in Germany, where the books are free to take.

It's fascinating that there is a natural balance between the giving and taking. I've seen a book exchange over here, but to take one you have to leave one.

The Hay Festival sounds like fun. I visited their website at
http://www.hayfestival.com/Default.aspx
and if you want Steemit to turn a URL into an actual link, I believe the trick is to include the http part at the beginning.

Thank you Kenny. Yes it is good fun, with something for everyone. And the town is quaint.Visitors do love it, as evidenced by the excited chatter and happy atmosphere they generate in the pubs and - well, everywhere.

I did have http to begin with Kenny, but testing it took me away from the post.I know the code bit to add - (just add a - target="_blank" - attribute to your links) but where to find the html editor in Steemit and insert it is a puzzle for me?

Hi Kenny. Further to the above.I clicked on the link that you've given and it doesn't open in a separate window or tab,so the post viewer has to use the back arrow to resume reading the post.

Opening in a separate window keeps the Steemit tab in place and available to click to return. I tend to think that viewers in general do not use the back arrow, but I have no facts on which to base that.

When posting, there is a way to toggle between Editor and Markdown mode, with the link right under the Title box. One of those modes should allow you to add HTML tags. Adding the target attribute will cause the link to open in a new tab, you are right!

My business is working on websites, and some clients like a link to open in the current tab while others prefer it to open in a new tab. I prefer a link to open in a new tab but there does seem to be fans of both ways.

I think the main think is to make sure a link is clickable because otherwise a person has to highlight the text and right click to open the context menu, or copy and paste into the address bar. Much easier to be able to just click a link. :)

Most grateful Kenny for your help and advice.I do test the links I put in posts, and that is when I saw that it was replacing the Steemit tab,not opening one of it's own.

I can add tags in Blogger but never found where to in Steemit.Thank you for pointing it out.
