Merry Christmas Steemians! - Coming back to Steem + Mini Santa Elf Sculpture
Happy Christmas holidays everyone hope you are all having a great day. I haven't posted on steemit in a while being busy with work and university however, I have continued to curate and invest in steem when ever possible. I have also not stopped drawing and plan on sharing techniques I have learnt and drawings over the past few months in future.
Today, I will share a little clay sculpture of an elf I made and painted in acrylics. I haven't used clay much in a long time so it was fun playing around with it.
I started with simple shapes to get the general features such as sphere for head and bean shape for the body. I then used a thin wire to carve details into these shapes. I also used the thin wire as a frame to connect the arms, legs and head to the main body. It was quite tricky working on such a small scale and pieces fell off at times but managed to get them all together in the end.
This was the finished result without paint.
After letting it dry for a few hours I did a brown undercoat in paint on the model. Once this coat was dry I started painting the main colours red, green, black, orange, yellow and skin colour. It required a few coats for the finished piece.
When it was dry and was happy with the final piece I went over it in PVA glue. This gave it the final polished look. I'm sure if I did the whole thing again it would look neater and better but overall I'm pleased with this attempt at creating a mini elf.
I hope you enjoyed this post!
Merry Christmas!🎅
Hi Ian! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
It is nice to see you back and especially to see such cute festive little Elf! I always adore sculptures and figures made in 3-dimension. Great job! Hope you will have on and off time for posting but as you said itself important is to be active no matter if posting or curating. Steem has little tendency to go up despite of other Crypto has slight trend downwards. Hopefully coming year will be better for all Steemians!
Hi stef, yes sometimes it can be too much doing so many things at once and helps to take time out on uploading and focus on drawing. It has been quite painful watching the price of steem drop over the last few years but I think we are coming close to the end now and a reversal will happen at some point in the next few months bringing more users to steem with it.

I'm moving to get back on here as well, even adding video now (so much work) but looking forward to a happy Steemit new year happy 2020!
Thanks and happy new year! Yeah video format does take much longer with editing and d.tube can be tricky sometimes.
