Creating Architecture With Industrial Materials - Recycle Reuse

in #art8 years ago

Architectural Sustainability

There is a trend in architecture to use recycled and sustainable materials. Not only are we seeing more and more energy efficiency in the structures themselves but serious thought is being given to how much energy and pollution are being created when new structures are designed. If you can reuse an old material in a new building it helps to decrease both significantly. This should be intuitive. If you don't have to go through the process of creating new building materials it cuts out a whole cycle of waste and consumption of energy.

Our studio has been assigned a project to come up with an architectural use for old shipping containers. The client has a bunch of them around and has the need for some auxiliary buildings on their campus. They have very few design criteria and want us to experiment with different configurations. The pictures you see here are the very first conceptual design that we are trying.

This design space is designed to create and indoor / outdoor set of rooms where people can have mixed use of the space for offices and meeting space. The interior room / court yard allows for a sheltered outdoor work space that ties the modules together as common space. It is still a work in progress.
