Steem-Powered Projects and Our Future Production

Steemy Dreams...

Over the last few weeks, we - the Hither Yon team - have had a blast presenting our work for you, the Steemit Community. We’ve had the great joy to revisit past projects and reconstruct the start of our ongoing adventure so that we could share it beyond our closest friends and family. The feedback has been tremendous and today we wanted to take a moment to fully describe our ideas and goals for engaging with Steemit. There are some grandiose plans laid out here so we really hope to get some constructive feedback on what we hope to achieve.

Our Blockchain Ambitions

All of us at Hither Yon are trained architects that have practiced within the profession in diverse ways. We know very well the severe limitations of the profession and our move to Berlin was the first major step in attempting to break down those boundaries. As it exists today, the field of architecture is far too narrow, inapplicable, self-oriented, educationally inaccessible, and just ridiculously expensive for the abstract value that it provides. As it stands now, architecture has a difficult time tackling larger political, economic, or social problems in the world. We wanted to change that.

When we first discovered Steemit, we were immediately enthused. Right away it seemed like the appropriate and invigorating platform that we had been seeking, one which -

1- Motivates new projects through process not object
2- Attracts an audience towards grassroots work
3- Tackles local problems through a globalized network
4- De-centralizes control within the traditional design process

Operating in a certain type of environment always encourages the production of a certain type of work. In the hierarchical and corporate structure of modern architecture firms, work tends to be, well... hierarchical and corporate. But if Steemit is truly something that can break that down, our initial ambitions for Hither Yon could be reinvigorated and soar even higher.

Steem-Powered Project ABC’s

Steem-Powered Projects is the goal of creating work for us on this platform. We see a real potential for Steemit to encourage and engage design work and creative process in way that current physical and digital spaces cannot. Here is the outline of how we can make this really robust and productive for creative professionals -

A- Pursue physical projects backed by the Steemit community and Steem currency. Upvotes translate into financial support and we as designers have a tangible opportunity to turn funds produced by our posts into real-life work. These can range from drawings and design trinkets to public and building projects that this platform helps support.

B- Encourage designers to relay their findings through this platform. We have taught at the University and high-school level and since we’re planning on teaching again, why not engage the students on Steemit? We have an opportunity to stimulate research and proposals, motivating designers to tell each step of the process with the feedback on this platform. Steemit provides a global network to engage with and be educated by.

C- Embrace a decentralized economy to empower bottom-up design thinking. By investing time and energy into Steemit as a social media platform + source for funding, our collective can help the discipline of architecture become better connected to the communities it seeks to serve.

With these points of departure, the opportunities are endless! We as a community can work together to push Steem-powered exhibitions, Steem-powered artwork, Steem-powered installtion, Steem-powered social programs, Steem-powered workshops, Steem-powered architecture, Steem-powered industrial design, Steem-powered local infrastructure, Steem-powered INNOVATION. With each of these endeavors, the capacity to tell compelling stories, deliver valuable information, reveal a mysterious creative process, and ultimately substantiate value in a community or for an individual are all factors that until now have been very difficult to achieve.

So these are the initial little ruminations that will hopefully blossom into full-fledged and meaningful projects that we can all engage in as a new community.
