Hajime Sorayama Robot Sculpture
Sometimes (or often like me :-)), you know the design, the painting... but not the artist behind. And for me, this was the case for the Girl Bot looking like Marilyn.
And few days ago, I read an article about APPortfolio (art platform for designers across Asia) and their new project about a coffee table sculpture, the Sorayama Classic Robot SURF, from a Hajime Sorayama painting from 1984. And here is the artist behind the work, the legendary Hajime Sorayama.
Born in 1947, Hajime Sorayama is a Japanese illustrator, designer known for his painting of biomechanoid robots. He started to design his first in 1978 (in advance on his time, IA and robot weren't the main subject of discussion), it was for an advert for Suntory whisky. You know him also his design of the Sony AIBO robotic pet.
The sculpture, Classic Robot SURF, stands at 52 cm tall, only 500 pieces for about $1,500. To buy one, direction the website Lane Crawford this March 24.
